Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.’

When Your Heart Is Broken

Brenda Walsh

When you are sad, discouraged or brokenhearted, it’s human nature to reach out to a friend for comfort. Somehow, just telling someone who cares about you seems to make things a little better. It doesn’t mean your faith in God is diminished because you reached out for human comfort. There’s nothing wrong with sharing your troubles and receiving support from earthly friends. In fact, the Bible encourages it. But don’t replace God’s comfort for that of others, because the comfort that God provides is so much more satisfying than anything a friend on earth can provide. Jesus is both our Savior and our friend. Keep in mind that God sees the “big picture” and knows what is best for us, and there’s no better place to be than in His comforting arms of love. Don’t get discouraged when going through life's trials, for being a Christian doesn’t mean you’ll never feel the pain of a broken heart. The Bible says that even Jesus wept. Although Jesus knew the future, He had complete faith in His heavenly Father and He knew God would win the battle, yet Jesus still grieved for his children. Jesus is the only “Healer of hearts” and the only One who can give real and lasting peace, joy, healing, and happiness.
