Waiting to Be Happy
If we understood how fragile life really is, we would all live our lives differently. We are always “waiting” to be happy instead of choosing to be happy “now.” We wait for the right relationship, a college education, financial success, a new house, a higher position in our job, or a new car . . . thinking that then we will achieve happiness. But none of those things will bring real peace or joy. Sadly, instead of focusing on our many blessings, we spend time worrying, complaining, gossiping, being jealous, being angry, being depressed, all the time wishing for and wanting something bigger and better than what we have. If you keep “waiting” to be happy, you never will be. Life is much shorter than you realize, for no one is promised tomorrow. All it takes is a single moment to dramatically change your life. Don’t wait any longer. Ask God to come into your heart and make you truly grateful for His many blessings that He already has given you. Choose to be happy, right now, today, no matter what dreams and goals that have or have not been accomplished. The Bible says in Proverbs 10:28, “The hope of the righteous will be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.” At the end of your life, none of your personal achievements, accolades, or accumulated wealth will matter - you can’t take them to heaven with you. Only what you do for Christ will last - that’s what matters. So, don’t wait to be happy. Accept God’s gift of joy and be happy today!
Text:
5 I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers,
6 but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
7 To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud-even your own brothers! (1 Corinthians 6:5-8, ESV)
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. (Philippians 4:11-12, ESV)
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5, ESV)
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalms 16:11, ESV)
