Spiritual Power

Choosing God’s commandments over sinful urges and desires not only demonstrates your love for Him but strengthens your relationship with Him as well. When you seek God’s will for your life, He will lead and guide you around all the things that pull you away from Him and the closer you are to Jesus - the more you will want to please Him by living a godly life. Whenever temptation raises it’s ugly head, God is there to give you the victory - all you need to do is ask. In other words, God will give you spiritual power to win the battle over sin! In 1 Corinthians 15:57 we’re told, “Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” When you fall in love with Jesus you no longer have the same worldly desires and the more you grow spiritually, those temptations that you once saw as harmless, no longer have the same appeal, and your eyes are open to the danger. Bottom line: there’s no sinful pleasure on this earth that is worth missing out on eternity with Jesus! The Bible says in 1 John 2:17, “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Text:

Titus 2:12-15,

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,

12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

15 Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. (Titus 2:11-15, ESV)

James 1:2-18,

Testing of faith

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,

3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation,

10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away.

11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. (James 1:2-18 ESV)

John 16:31-33

31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?

32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." (John 16:31-33, ESV)
